Nuni De In Old Louisville: Emergents Continue the Conversation in Louisville

I currently live in Louisville, Ky and have been since I became a student at Boyce College. I came across a Presbyterian/Emergent blog promoting a meeting of some Emergents in Louisville in a area called Old Louisville. Here is how they discuss their "meeting."

If you are in Louisville on September 01, 2008 we are having our first gathering. We are gathering at The Old Louisville Coffeehouse from 7 to 9 pm. If you would like more information on this developing worshiping community check us out on facebook, twitter, or our blog...

A bit about us…

We are a worshiping community in Old Louisville seeking to be the Body of Christ to our neighbors. We wrestle with today’s church and its inability to transform the lives of those that find themselves on its shores. We seek new ways to be an incarnation body to the world. We desire to be free of the chains of differences and celebrate diversity, in all of its beauty. We answer the call on our lives in service to our communities as we endeavor to be the church and cease doing church.

We gather to create a safe place for all to explore faith, grace, love, and compassion.
We are not a “church” founded in bricks and mortar. We are a worshiping community founded in the principles of Gods unbiased love and never ending grace.

We are not just Presbyterian, Lutheran, Methodist, or Catholic…or even Christian. We are seeking to be Christ-like, sans all the religious pomp and circumstance. We subscribe to a belief in God as witnessed in Jesus the Christ. We are inclusive and open to all. All are welcome…come.

And people wonder why I am so anti-Emergent. Notice how this "worshiping community" describes itself. They consider themselves a "Body of Christ," who are neither "Presbyterian, Lutheran, Methodist, or Catholic...or even Christian." At first, I wonder, why do they call themselves Presbymergent?

"Or even Christian?" How can one be a part of the Body of Christ if they are not a follower of Christ as revealed in Scripture who submit to His gospel? They can't. Here we have nothing more than postmodernism, mixed with relativity, with a little bit of liberalism, topped off with social gospel ideals. This group, as typical among Emergents, ignore the gospel and focus only on works.

Here is just more reason why I continue warn people about this movement. What Jude described is happening still today, false teaching is sneaking into the church "unnoticed."

I think you missed the point of our community. Continue to warn folks about us. We are dangerous and coming to a neighborhood near you.

We do not consider ourselves just "denomination" we are followers of Jesus first and fore most that witness the world in our chosen/given context.

I wish you would come visit with us. I want to know why you are so anti-emergent? Is there not room for us all in the Kingdom?

I pray we get to met one day. Please contact me.
